"An office for medicine has been established, but I understand that very few avail themselves of the opportunity" (29th October).
Tushan.
Kuangtung and foreign medicines are in greatest demand, but some of the former are so injurious, through the opium they contain, that they are harder to break off than the opium itself. Good results have accrued from the use of a kind of thistle. The Shanghae missionaries have issued a tract giving two or three illustrated plates of the flower at different seasons of the year."
